Seattle is fortunate to have strong community support for volunteer work. As the Emerald City, many people pitch in to keep everything looking green and I try to help whenever I can.
My first job was in social work with the chronically mentally ill, and through it I was introduced to United Way of King County through which you can find many opportunities to get active across a vareity of causes. Numerous other agencies such as Earth Corps make use of this opportunity to get the word out about their causes.
In Seattle I've volunteered with ecological restoration (pictured is fall planting in Discovery Park), reclaiming planting ground from invasive monocultures, and distributing resources to underprivileged communities.
As my professional skill set has become more specialized, I've pivoted to leveraging those skills wherever I can, helping businesses, non-profits and individuals save on the cost of web development, tech support, and repair.
